WHY SO MUCH EMPHASIS ON BULLS?

Bulls have the greatest economic impact on any breeding program, thus bull selection is one of the most important decisions and investments that a cow man makes during the course of a year

A bull sires 20 to 40 calves each year while a cow produces half or less this many offspring in her lifetime. For the most part, herd improvement comes from the bulls. It has been estimated that 80% of the herd improvement is directly attributed to the bull selection.

Our primary focus has always been making functional and efficient cows. We focus on birth weights: live calves are a must, maternal traits: cows that milk and rebreed, pay weights: higher weaning and yearling weights, meat and muscle:  carcass quality and premiums.   We have watched carcass quality and yields closely and incorporated more intense selection to improve those traits without sacrificing the function of our cow herd.
